A Women's Play Development Series
Join us for The Nest, a play development series!
WHAT IS THE NEST?
The Nest is an intimate group of woman-identified playwrights, actors and theater professionals that gather for two hours every other Wednesday (more or less) between Dec. 4 and March 4 at Sagoto Bubble Tea World, 652 Newark Ave., Jersey City, N.J. (near the Journal Square PATH Station).
Our goal is to support women playwrights developing their plays for production in the Tri-State area.
At each meeting, 1 to 3 theatrical scripts are read by volunteers and then discussed by the group. At the Nest, we foster a positive, constructive environment where women can feel safe sharing their work while also getting the critical feedback they need to take their scripts to the next level.
Participation is a suggested donation of $10, which includes a free regular bubble tea from a select menu at Sagoto. Our wonderful venue also serves other delicious drinks and foods, please support! (https://www.instagram.com/sagoto.bubbleteaworld/)
OK, I'M IN. HOW DO I SUBMIT?
One-acts, scenes, monologues and full-length plays are all eligible. You may submit up to 5 works, but please fill out the form for one piece at a time. Scripts are accepted on a rolling basis. We ask that playwrights submit scripts at least a week in advance. You will be notified by email if your script is accepted.
You do not have to be located in the Tri-State area or physically present to submit, though preference will be given to people who can attend.
WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME?
At the end of the series, TIFC will select one playwright to receive at least 15 free hours of development aid in March and April including help with editing and rewriting, submitting to festivals, drafting budgets, assembling a team, finding rehearsal space, finding a venue, crowdfunding (if desired), developing a timeline, marketing and other topics.
Development services will not be available in May and June. If the playwright desires, they may resume development aid services in July at a reduced rate of $25 an hour. Nest Playwrights who are not selected may apply to receive development aid services at $40 an hour.
If the play is still unproduced by July/August but has been substantially developed and is at least half funded, TIFC may choose to produce the show independently in partnership with the playwright.

ABOUT THINKING IN FULL COLOR
Thinking In Full Color (TIFC) is an organization focused on empowering women of color through education and the arts. Our primary realm is the theatrical world -- through performance and community-driven talkbacks, we empower female-identified creators while educating audiences about the need for diversity in the media, racial issues and cultural exchange. We also create opportunities for women in education, literature, visual art, music, comedy, dance and other fields. We have featured work by dozens of women from across the Americas and have received two commendations from the New Jersey State Assembly, numerous BroadwayWorld award nominations and the inaugural Performing Arts Award from the Jersey City Arts Council in 2018.
