Using Your Voice

Monologues & Interpretation with Director Summer Dawn Reyes

There is nothing more intimidating than the task of learning a monologue -- but there is nothing more triumphant and empowering than conquering one. Every year, TIFC Founder and Director Summer Dawn Reyes works with 12 women of varying skill levels -- over the course of only three hours! -- to make In Full Color the award-winning theatrical powerhouse it is. And now, she's going to make you a monologue powerhouse, too.

Actors and actresses seeking private acting lessons and coaching now have the opportunity to work one-on-one with Summer to learn how to do the following:

  • choose the perfect monologue

  • analyze your character

  • understand your character's intentions

  • decode difficult text

  • master memorization

  • discover your emotional range

  • communicate clearly

  • move your audience

  • and more!

Every private lesson will be shaped to fit each student's needs -- whether you're preparing for an audition, dusting off your chops or looking to diversify your repertoire. You will also get to go at your own pace and set your own goals!

We are currently accepting bookings in North Jersey and New York City. Actors of all genders and colors are welcome to apply. If you are looking for help with general public speaking, please indicate this in your inquiry.

ABOUT SUMMER DAWN REYES AND THINKING IN FULL COLOR

Summer Dawn Reyes is the Founder and Director of Thinking In Full Color (TIFC). After seeing a need for more authentic representations of women of color in the arts, Summer created In Full Color in 2015. The show was a hit and gave rise to TIFC. She is also the co-founder of 68 Productions, a theatrical company dedicated to producing work by and for people of color. She is a winner of the Permanent Career Award in Literature from the Society of Arts and Letters-NJ and the N.J. Governor's Award in Arts Education.

In the theater world, she is a writer, director, producer, production manager and actress. Her work has been featured at the Downtown Urban Theater Festival and the New Jersey Young Playwrights Festival among others. She was also hand-chosen as a performer for United Methodist Women's 250th Assembly in front of a crowd of 5,000, and also as an opener for Grammy and Tony nominee Reg E. Gaines of Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk. As a director, she focuses on collaborative building, adapting to actors' individual learning styles and understanding language.

She is very close to the written word, and some may know her as a former arts journalist and the current Communications and Marketing Manager for nonprofit Rising Tide Capital.

Thinking In Full Color (TIFC) is an organization focused on empowering women of color through education and the arts. Our primary realm is the theatrical world -- through performance and community-driven talkbacks, we empower female-identified creators while educating audiences about the need for diversity in the media, racial issues and cultural exchange. We also create opportunities for women in education, literature, visual art, music, comedy, dance and other fields. We have featured work by dozens of women from across the Americas and have received two commendations from the New Jersey State Assembly, numerous BroadwayWorld award nominations and the inaugural Performing Arts Award from the Jersey City Arts Council in 2018.
