As an actress, Summer was frustrated with the lack of multidimensional roles for women of color. Fortunately, Summer was a writer, too, and took matters into her own hands by creating her own monologues and plays. Certain that other WOC would also love the opportunity to share their work authentically, Summer created
In Full Color in 2015. The show featured 12 women of different ethnic backgrounds, all performing monologues, poetry and other works that gave audiences a glimpse of what life was like in their skin. The theatrical production was a hit and gave rise to what is now Thinking In Full Color.

Prior to creating TIFC, Summer was an award-winning arts and culture journalist who also worked in the theater world as a playwright, director, actress and production manager. She is also the co-founder of 68 Productions, a theatrical company dedicated to producing work by and for people of color.

Among her honors are the Permanent Career Award in Literature from the Society of Arts and Letters-NJ and the N.J. Governor's Award in Arts Education. She was a winner of the New Jersey Young Playwrights Contest in 2007 and her play "Secrets; Love" was a finalist in the Downtown Urban Theater Festival in 2012. In May 2017, she was commended for her work with TIFC by the New Jersey State Assembly. TIFC was also the 2018 winner of the Jersey City Arts Council's Performing Arts Award.

Summer loves writing about magic, romance and silly protagonists who are just a little (or a lot) off-beat. She enjoys karaoke, playing ukulele and escape rooms. She is also happily married to a very tall Greg, and the proud stepmother of another slightly smaller one.

Summer is available for individual bookings, workshops and speaking engagements. She has spoken at Hunter College, Rutgers University, New Jersey City University, Passion is Pursuit Conference NYC, The Fly Zone, Inspired Artist Movement & more events.
